problem, the Karten CTEC Centre has specially adapted computer devices,
courses written especially to help with learning difficulties, and highly
skilled teachers. All our courses take place in a welcoming, supportive
environment and are geared to match your speed of learning. There is no
pressure to perform or to keep up with everyone else.

for adults with learning

Introduction to Fun
with Computers -
Assists adults with learning difficulties and/or
disabilities use computers and develop new skills.
Monday
9.30 am - 12 noon
Duration: Up to 1 year - with a new topic and re-enrolment
each term.
Start Date: September 2007
Pre-requisites: Some recognised
communication skills and able to work in a group.
Cost: Supported by WBC -

More Fun
with Computers -
Assists adults with learning difficulties and/or
disabilities improve their computer skills and learn
to use a digital camera.
Tuesday

ICT Skills for Life -
Helps adults with learning difficulties and/or
disabilities who wish to
extend their computer skills
and gain a qualification. (OCR Basic Skills Entry, Level 1, 2 or 3 as
appropriate).

Helping adults with
disabilities or medical conditions that make learning new skills
difficult but wish to extend their computing skills to include computer
housekeeping and on-line activities.
Thursday
1 pm - 4 pm
Duration: 1 year

Pre-requisite:
Some prior computing knowledge and attend a pre-course assessment.

Helping adults with
disabilities or medical conditions that make learning new skills
difficult but wish to use their computing skills on practical tasks in
preparation for voluntary or paid employment.

Qualifications in ICT and Literacy or Numeracy.

Helping adults with
disabilities or medical conditions that make learning new skills
difficult who wish to maintain their computing skills.

Some computer skills.

Helping adults with

Some computer skills, ideally an entry level qualification and to attend
a pre-course assessment.

COMPUTER - AIDED COMMUNICATION SKILLS
for adults with complex physical
and cognitive disabilities
Using
computers to experience cause and effect -
Will benefit adults with learning disabilities to
experience the relationship between cause and effect and working in a
small group.

Duration: Up to 1 year
Enrolment possible at any time throughout year.
Start Date: September 2007
Pre-requisites: Need to be able to follow basic computer
instructions and bring a support worker to help you.
Cost: Standard session

Internet and e-mail Drop in Session -
Intended for adults who've
previously attended courses at The Karten Centre and are capable of
using the facilities, internet and e-mail with minimal supervision.
Friday
11 am - 12 noon
Start Date: September 2007
Pre-requisites: Letter of
referral/recommendation
Cost: Standard session rate - £10
Computer
Aided Communication Skills -
Adults with complex and profound disabilities
learn to use a computer to assist their communication.
Wednesday OR Thursday between 1 pm - 4 pm
Duration: Up to 1 year
Start Date: September 2007
Pre-requisites: This course is intended for students who
need extra support to learn and so you will need to have a support
worker to help you.
Cost: Standard session rate - £35
