The Karten CTEC Centre at Jewish Care caters for people with sensory and/or physical disabilities, providing them with the tools to develop useful IT skills, whilst encouraging them to assert their independence within a caring and nurturing environment. It is also a great place to make new friends.

The centre:

  • Is situated at street level and  is fitted with automatic doors to the building and facilities, air conditioning and an induction loop.
  • Boasts the latest multimedia computers with adjustable workstations and seats, enabling full wheelchair access.
  • Enables use of a variety of familiar and specialist computer equipment and programmes, including Word Processor, spreadsheet  and databases, screen magnifiers and readers (the latter enabling blind and partially sighted people to use the computer without needing to look at the screen)
  • Provides one-to-one tuition and befriending from a team of dedicated, caring and sensitive staff and volunteers.
  • Carries a wide variety of programmes to suit varying interests which includes educational CD ROM's, Scrabble, Bridge, quizzes, computerised jigsaw puzzle and crosswords, Trivial Pursuit and family tree maker.
  • Contains a comfortable lounge equipped with videos, snacks and reading materials, which is open throughout daily sessions.
