The Karten CTEC
Centre in Haifa was established by and reports to a partnership of two
organisations: the University of Haifa and the LIN Medical Centre. In
addition to serving the disabled people in Haifa and its surrounding area,
the CTEC Centre is used by the university for research and for providing
practical experience to students in its Occupational Therapy department.
The CTEC Centre is located in the LIN Medical Centre where it has ready
access to specialists such as speech, physical and occupational
therapists.

Number of Trainee Computer Stations: 10 Location, premises: The Centre is located in the LIN Medical Centre next to the department of Occupational Therapy. The building is centrally located and easily accessible by public transportation. The Centre is one big open-space hall, two small rooms, a kitchen and an office, and is about 110ms. The Staff: Includes Occupational Therapists, a Speech Therapist and a technology expert. Haifa University: Faculty of Social Welfare
& Health Studies Brief Description: The faculty of the University concerned with the CTEC Centre is the Faculty of Social Welfare and Health Studies, which includes the School of Social Work, the Departments of Human Services, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Physical Therapy and Gerontology. The faculty meets the need for an academic institution in the north of Israel to provide the resources for the training of professionals in the areas of social welfare and health, including Occupational Therapists. This and the faculty’s wish to carry out research in adaptive computer technology provided the impetus for the university’s interest in establishing a CTEC Centre, together with the university’s desire for such a Centre to be available to the people with disabilities in Haifa and its surrounding area. Lin Medical Centre Brief Description: LIN Medical Centre belongs to Clalit Health Services (Sherutey Bruit Clalit), the largest health insurance provider in Israel. LIN is the biggest Medical Centre in the community and treats outpatients. The Medical Centre consists of 36 different departments such as general and plastic surgery, urology, internal medicine, cardiology, diabetes, oncology, orthopaedics, neurology, x-ray, various operating theatres, rehabilitation etc. About 400 staff members treat daily some 4,000 patients. The rehabilitation department consists of a physical and an occupational therapy department, which treats patients with diverse physical impairments. |
